More in an attempt to catch up on the blog...
One of our weekend excursions included a trip to a Taoist Temple, as well as to a marketplace filled with Dong and Miao ethnic minority crafts.
The temple entranceway was beautiful... filled with the smoke of incense on a very rainy day. The yin yang symbol is painted on the path to the temple. The actual inside of the temple was not subject to photography, but the altar area was surrounded by life size three dimensional figures, all of which represented some aspect of worship/living. The carved statues were so animated, especially the facial features. Reminded me of the statuary I grew up with in the Catholic Church; however, these were much more "alive" and the expressions on the faces were far more exaggerated. I waited there, certain that these figures were going to start moving, start speaking directly to me.
This was a special place for Scott, who has been a student of Taoism for many years. The place spoke to him in a very real way...
After the Taoist Temple, we journeyed to a restaurant which offered everything from special dumplings to pig's paw... Yes, indeed! Ah, I have been grateful for the eggplant at many a meal!!!!
