Talent Show Extravaganza!!! August 2

 Gentle Reader,

Today I continued a tradition started by Nancy Lubeski and myself out in Bejie during the summer of 2008:  the end of session Talent Show!  We had a total of 15 acts, with everything from singing to dancing to poetry recitation.  All four of the classes also performed a song together, so everyone was a part of this showcase of talent.

Despite some technical glitches with sound equipment or computer volume, everything went off quite well.  For my contribution, I sang Schubert's "Ave Maria, to add a little Western classical flavor to the show.  Scott read Prospero's final speech from Shakespeare's The Tempest, with some alterations that made the piece uniquely suited to Guiyang.

The highlight of the show, for me, however, was when Scott's class performed for the audience.  They sang "I Will Possess Your Heart" by Death Cab for Cutie.  Scott sang the refrain directly to me, and this romantic gesture pleased the romantic souls of our Chinese students.  As for me, I was very moved and, as always, fell in love with Scott all over again.  This song was the very first song Scott ever sang to me, as we sat out in an empty ampitheatre late at night when we were in Istanbul, Turkey over two years ago.  A memory that he recreated in a very endearing way today during the Talent Show in Guiyang....  Thank you, dear Doc!!!

Namaste,
Marianne/  Bai Ling/  Mei Lan
