Title of Blog: Closing Ceremony August 5
Gentle Reader,
Just returned from the Closing Ceremony... We each spoke about our class, had a student speak on behalf of each class, and then each performed a song for the school officials. We handed out certificates, to the tune of many hugs and flashes of cameras. A day of celebration, but somewhat anti-climactic after yesterday. Being in the actual classroom with our students is where all of the work and creativity and bonding take place, so our farewells yesterday were much more personal and intimate.
We awkenened to rain this morning, signifying the greyness associated with saying farewell. I was so pleased to be able to stay dry walking to class, under the cover of the beautiful art umbrella my daughter Annelise gave me.
I received a lovely Chinese scroll from my student Lydia. It says "Among the mountains, water, and clouds." Beautiful, especially after having so fully experienced the mountins of Guizhou Province.
And now for the final touches on our packing. Off to Guiyang for more farewells...
Namaste,
Mei Lan
