Travels with George, Part One July 2, 2011

Scott and I at Victoria Peak

We were most surprised to discover that we had a personal tour guide for a chunk of today, with our own private bus.  George was a delight nd showed us the town in style and humor.  Our first destination was Victoria Peak.  We travelled south, crossing over the bay.  The Hong Kong Island is crowded with skyscrapers on the right along the journey and with some beautiful open, rolling hills on the left.

As you can see in the storefront window photo above, bamboo is used to decorate and enhance.  It's fascinating to note that all of the scaffolding on the buildings under construction is also made from bamboo.  The sturdiness and strength of bamboo is amazing.  I will try to get some scaffolding pictures tomorrow so that you can see its strength in action.

The bathrooms at Victoria Peak were immaculate.  It was also interesting to observe a Muslim woman repositioning her veil in the restroom mirror.  Although she had to almost completely reposition the fabric, she did so without showing her hair, re-veiling in a most modest way.  All the time she was doing this, she was being helpful to me showing me the location of the semi-hidden soap and towels in the lavoratory.
