July 3rd, 2011.....Celebrating Scott's Birthday in Hong Kong

Gentle Reader...
P1014566.JPGThis evening, to celebrate Scott's special day,  we actually went to a German Restaurant in the Kowloon area of Hong Kong.  The beers were wonderful and we had a combination of potato pancakes, variety of sausages, red cabbage, and pork.  As is common here in several establishments, there was a trio of women singing karaoke at the German eatery.  Truth be told, they were really horrendously awful.  Especially painful to the ears was the standard Western version of Happy Birthday singing.  The tonalities may have been very unfamilir to their Eastern ears.  In the midst of the off-keyness, there was great enthusiasm in their playing and singing... especially on the part of the tambouring player!

After our German dinner, we went to Ned Kelly's Last Stand, which is a jazz club in downtown Kowloon.  We've become very familiar with Nathan Street and the surrounding areas, so we had no trouble finding the club.  There was no cover, which surprised us.  However, it was Sunday night, so perhaps that was why.  The jazz musicians were from The Phillipines, and they were phenomenal! A couple sitting at table with us had connections to The Phillipines, and they were very proud of the fact that this marvelous band was from the woman's country.  They were scheduled to play from 9:30 till 2:00 am.  We lasted until about 12:30, as our day had been quite full.  Scott celebrated with yagermeisters, and I had a very potent version of Long Island Iced Tea.

This is the third birthday of Scott's that we've been together, so it was a special celebration for more than one reason.

Happy Birthday , Scott!  Three years ago, I arranged for a birthday celebration for Scott when we were in Turkey.  When I ordered "cake" we weren't quite sure how that would translate.  We ended up with a chocolately concoction that was blasting with sparklers.  A wonderful celebration there, too!

P.S.  The blog is several days behind.  Note that this is due to the fact that blogs are apparently blocked here on mainland China.  The entries I had made thus far came from Hong Kong, which apparently has less restrictions from the government.  So, to troubleshoot, my daughter Alicia has agreed to have me send her the blog entry texts and accompanying photos, and then she will post them when she has an opportunity.  So.... special thanks to Alicia.  This is the first entry that will come via her tech intervention.  It will take me a few days to catch up on the blog, as we have been in Guilin for several days and experienced many adventures here...
