Bird Market on Kowloon Island, Hong Kong

We had heard stories of men "walking their birds" in various parts of Asia.  So, we thought we'd check out the Bird Market on Kowloon Island.  This was a most delightful place, filled with everyone from children to the very elderly... all absolutely enamoured with birds!  Although we didn't see anyone actually "walking" their birds, we did see many, many older gentlemen sitting in the market area, which consisted of several alleyways, showing off and sharing their birds.  One guy was a master at smooching with his bird.  Another had his do all sorts of tricks, including having the bird pose like a cradled baby in his hand.  Most just sat gently with their birds, smiling at the admirerers that walked by or stopped to chat about the bird.

There were numerous types of grasshoppers one could find in the market, as well as all sorts of wormy creatures.  The grasshoppers could be used for feeding and/or kept for good luck... apparently a Chinese custom.
